This morning, I attended the monthly meeting of the
Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Allegheny
County [PAT] (meeting held on Wednesday, due to the
Thanksgiving weekend). By a unanimous vote, the Board
members approved, finally, a new PAT fare schedule,
effective January 1, which includes a $2 base fare for
Zone 1 riders, a 25-cent increase over the current
base fare.

At the public hearings earlier this year, PAT had
proposed increasing the base fare to $2.50 for Zone 1
riders, with higher rates for Zone 2 & 3 riders. As an
alternative, they had also proposed a $2 flat fare for
the entire system, with no additional fare zones.
However, the PAT administration finally proposed, and
the Board finally approved, retention of
the three-fare zone system, with the Zone 1 base fare
only increasing to $2 [instead of the $2.50 originally
proposed].

approved this morning, click this link:
