[Transit-allegheny] Deadline Passes for "Congestion Pricing" as NY State Legislators Do Nothing

Yesterday, the deadline to pass New York City Mayor
Bloomberg's "congestion pricing" plan, which would
have brought in money to improve public transit, came
and went without any vote by the New York State
Assembly. The plan would have charged drivers $8 each
time they drove south of 60th Street in Manhatten,
during peak hours.

Approval by an April 7 deadline was necessary for New
York City to receive $354 million in Federal funds, to
help implemnent the plan.

There is dispute regarding how much support the plan
would have had, if it had come up for a vote in
Albany. However, several legislators claimed it lacked
sufficient support for passage, hence no vote was
taken.
