At Saturday afternoon's recessed meeting of the Port Authority of Allegheny County Board of Directors, PAT Directors made no changes to a plan for 15 percent of transit service to be eliminated as of Sunday. This was despite a last-minute call, from the transit union chief, to delay the cuts one week for additional negotiations.

On Friday, the plan, proposed by the transit union to avoid the cuts and the layoffs of 180 union workers, was rejected by both the PAT Board and County Executive Dan Onorato as providing not enough concessions to sustain the transit system. Likewise, the union leadership, without a vote of the membership, rejected two alternate plans proposed by the County Executive, which also could have avoided the service cuts and layoffs.

The PAT Board also approved applications, from Lenzner Coach Lines, to operate rush hour-only bus service on two routes to Downtown Pittsburgh from suburban North Hills locations. As Lenzner will receive no public subsidy, the fares will be significantly higher than PAT bus fares.
