This is it--coming-up are the last two days of public operation of the original Gateway Center Subway Station of Pittsburgh's Light Rail Transit System. The original Gateway Center Subway Station, which opened to the public in 1985, will close to the public PERMANENTLY, following the departure of the last 42S train on Friday night--Saturday morning (Saturday, October 31, 2009) at 1:21 a.m. (EDST).
A new Gateway Center Subway Station is scheduled to open near the end of 2011, across Liberty Avenue from the original station, on a triangular piece of property once dubbed "Panda Park" by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
This is the last chance for the public to take photographs of the first Gateway Center Subway Station. It would also be the last chance to take pictures, while on a rail car, of the Gateway Center transit loop including the pocket-track.
If you wish to take photographs of the Gateway Center Subway Station before it closes early Saturday morning, Port Authority Public Relations Director, Jim Ritchie, requests that you contact him first, so he can notify the Port Authority Police Department. This way, the PAT Police will not think you are taking photographs for a possible terrorist strike.
