[Transit-allegheny] NYC MTA Bailout Approved; MTA CEO Resigns

Late yesterday (Wednesday), the New York State Assembly approved a bailout plan for New York City's Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which will prevent a "doomsday" transit plan from being initiated on June 1. Most transit service will continue with the base fare increase limited to about 10 percent.

Today (Thursday) MTA Chief Executive Elliot G. Sander announced his resignation, to allow New York Governor David A. Paterson an opportunity to take the transit system in “a different direction.”
