[Transit-allegheny] NYC: $2.50 Base Fare & Major Service Cuts

Today, the Board of New York City's Metropolitan Transportation Authority approved a transit base fare hike from $2 to $2.50, along with major cuts in subway and bus service. Subway and bus fares increase May 31; commuter rail fares increase June 1.

According to The New York Times on-line:

"Board members called the combination of fare increases and slashing bus, subway and commuter rail cuts a disaster but said they could no longer wait for lawmakers in Albany to rescue them."
