[Transit-allegheny] PAT--Transit Strike: No - Walk-Out: Maybe

This morning, on the "Marty Griffin Show" on KDKA-AM 1020 radio, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 85 President Pat McMahon said that the November 23 "informational" meeting of the membership would NOT include a strike vote, contrary to several media reports earlier in the morning.

However, after further questioning by Marty Griffin, Pat McMahon would not deny that the transit workers could simply walk off the job on December 1, in what the Union considers to be a "lock-out." As the Union did not agree with the contract that PAT management is imposing on December 1, they could consider the unilateral change in contract terms to be a lock-out and the members could refuse to work.

In the end, a judge will probably have the final say as to whether this legally constitutes a lock-out. However, the Union membership may choose to walk out before the issue goes to court. Pat McMahon claims that the Union cannot challenge the lock-out in court until it actually takes effect on December 1.
