Today, representatives of many Downtown Pittsburgh businesses met to discuss plans for a possible strike next month by Amalgamated Transit Union Local No. 85 against the Port Authority of Allegheny County Transit System. The forum was sponsored by the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership and the Allegheny Conference on Community Development.

Additionally, the citizens group Save Our Transit plans a meeting this evening at 6:30 p.m., at the United Cerebral Palsy office building at 4638 Centre Ave., North Oakland, on the same subject. They will seek ways to prevent a transit strike, which would be devastating to transit-dependent individuals.

The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership and the Allegheny Conference have set-up two new web sites to provide more information about a possible transit strike and tips on how to plan for a strike.
