[Transit-allegheny] Pittsburgh Transit Taxes Approved

On Tuesday Evening, 2007 December 4 at precisely
8:13:00 p.m. EST, history was made when dedicated
funding for Pittsburgh's Port Authority Transit (PAT)
System was approved by Allegheny County Council. At
that time, the first of two new taxes, the so-called
"Poured-Drink Tax," was approved by a vote of 10 votes
in favor [the minimum to approve the tax--a
"supermajority"], 4 opposed, and one abstention.

A few minutes later, at precisely 8:20:23 p.m. EST,
the second companion tax, an automobile rental tax of
which the proceeds will also be dedicated to funding
public transit in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, was
approved by 11 votes in favor and 4 opposed.
