International Observe the Moon Night

International Observe the Moon Night, or InOMN, takes place on October 8 this year. What is InOMN? Well, it’s simply a night when people around the globe go outside and look up at the Moon. The beauty is you don’t need a telescope to observe the Moon! You don’t even have to go to an observatory or science center. You can observe the Moon from your own back/front yard. Visit the InOMN website (http://observethemoonnight.org/) to learn more about this exciting event and how you can register your own InOMN event.

MyMoon will hold two webcasts about InOMN; one on September 14, 2011 and one on September 28. On September 14, InOMN director Brooke Hsu from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center will tell us all about the event and answer your questions relating to InOMN. On September 28, Brian Day from the NASA Ames Research Center will be our guest to talk about ways to observe the Moon and which lunar features will be great observing targets on the night of October 8. Keep your eye on MyMoon (http://www.lpi.usra.edu/mymoon/) for information on connecting to these webcasts.

 MyMoon’s Conspiracy Showdown

Take off your tin-foil hats for a while and let your brain soak-up the info from our newest exhibit, the MyMoon Conspiracy Showdown (http://www.lpi.usra.edu/mymoon/?p=showdown/index.cfm?). Join Chuck the Squirrel, Phil Plait, and the Institute’s very own Paul Spudis as we set the record straight on some of the wackiest Moon hoax claims. If you know of a Moon hoax claim we did not cover, and would like to see us address it, let us know on the form on the exhibit page.
